I'm making a trip this weekend from Cincinnati, OH to look at a few sublets in Brooklyn/Queens. I'm essentially packing up the few things I own (about 4 suitcases and a couple boxes) and trying to find a room ASAP while figuring out a longer term solution to housing.
I doubt I'll be lucky enough to find a place this weekend (I've got 4-5 viewings lined up), and will need a place to stay regardless.
A friend suggested finding an inexpensive motel in Jersey to sleep at while coming in on the train to look at places for a couple days. I'm not familiar with the NJ area though, so does anyone have suggestions for towns in general right on a line into NYC, or for specific inexpensive hotels/motels?!
Sorry. Moderators feel free to do it. I just figured that, since this board is frequented more, some people who used to commute from Jersey might have some ideas?

Anywhere along Rt 1 and 9, Its known as Motel Alley. From Newark Ariport down to about Edison there are like 40 Motels and 20 Hotels. If your driving, any of these would be a 10-20 min drive to the closest train station and ALL trains along the North East Corridor stop in NYC. From there you would have to take the subway to get out to Brooklyn.
HI, check out www.skyviewhotel.com/ Located in Rahway NJ. Across the street from the NJ Transit Train station that offers direct access into NYC Penn Station.
You should stay in Brooklyn or Queens. This is way too circuitous for your purposes. Look for a hostel or something.
