You know, I lived in New Jersey for 38 years and this is one I never heard. I think someone might be exaggerating a little. But frankly...I don't think anywhere you go in NJ will be a place you'd get flack for being an interracial couple. I know/knew plenty of interracial couples and it was all good.
well nationally, the media has called it the number one place for Interracials since the 90s
Okay. The media also says it's always sunny and bright in California, that Tom really does love Katie and that it's DEFINITELY going to snow tomorrow. I can tell you only that I lived there for close to four decades, and never heard this. But if you feel the media is correct, knock yourself out.
ETA: Also...if you are referring to the actual number of interracial couples, you could be correct; who knows. I'm not sure that means they're better received, nor that other places would look down on interracial couples. Again...I never saw anyone give anyone else a hard time for being interracial (Asian/Black, Anglo/Asian, whatever) anywhere in New Jersey and I have never lived in Montclair. But if Montclair strikes your fancy, check it out...there is a "best towns" thread that I think mentions the town itself.
Can people tell me if Montclairs reputation as a haven for Interracial couples and families really true?
are there many IR couples and families visible there?
Is it a safe environment for IR couples?
Are the schools sensitive to the needs of these families?
what makes it so open?
Yes, itis the #1 city/town for interracial couples. It was recognized in the 90's, but Montclair has been reciallydiverse well before that. Montclair was one f the first places in the US to start busing black kids to the white part of town and vice versa. I am a product of Montclair's school system, and I can tell you that the community is still unique. To answer your question, the communityis super safe with regard to interracial couples.
I don't think so. Montclair is pretty segregated, whites/Asians on one side, blacks/Hispanics on the other. Not sure how much mixing goes on between the groups.
