I've been researching moving into Harrison NJ because it would allow me to be closer to my job in NYC. My major problem is that it's not directly on the transit line anymore so I would likely have to drive to Newark and take the train in. Those two options are Broadstreet and Newark Penn Station. Currently I'm working days, so I would be getting on the train as early as 5:30 or 6. Is it safe to leave my car in either station, or would it be a better bet to drive the 20 minutes to the Seacaucus Junction?
Forget about Broad street. The area looks seedy at 3 pm, yet alone 5 am. I really like Newark Penn. It's probably the best train station in NJ when it comes to size and usage (along with Secaucus). But I know a couple of people who have had their car windows smashed around the area (even in the Ironbound!). Driving to Secaucus would be a real drag, but I've heard parking is plentiful there. Good luck!
Why can't you just park your car somewhere near the PATH station in Harrison and take the train in? Better yet, why can't you not rely on your car as much and find a place within walking distance to the station?
Broad Street station doesn't have its own lot. It has a couple of surface lots nearby and the Riverfront Stadium garage, but that's it.
You can't park at Secaucus either. And Penn Station is expensive to park and traffic down there is a biatch at that time.
PS PATH is cheaper than NJT. Might be longer because of your commute but meh. PATH is $1.75 one-way from Harrison; NJT from both Newark stations is $4 one-way.
Take the PATH in from Harrison station. You'll come in to the WTC station, or you could swap trains and get into 6th & 33rd, which will cost another 20 minutes. Certainly easier than driving, far less expensive to boot. Plus it would defeat the point, imho, to drive to a station 20 minutes away, risking obnoxious traffic.

Thank you for the information. I had already checked the PATH website prior to my post. According to them: they no longer offer services through Harrison; which is why I was looking into Broadstreet or Penn Station.
Walking to the train is a nice concept, but from personal experience it is only practical if the area permits it. I have to be at work before 7 am so I'm very limited in my choices--not many stations run that early or have a lot of options at that time.

I find that hard to believe- there's a huge development underway in Harrison (the Metrocentre), and its success hinges upon people being able to gain access to and from Harrison. If PATH stopped servicing Harrison, there's going to be some major uproar......

The last time I took the path train was about a month ago when service when funky on nj transit out of NYC (disabled amtrak train in the tunnel). It stopped at Harrison, and as far as I know, still does. Where did you see this on the PATH web site?

Huh? Of course they do. I just checked it. The station is on Rodgers Blvd just south of 280. You must be thinking about Kearny. Where do you work exactly?

I'm aware of that - the OP said on the PATH site that service is stopping. I've never seen or heard of such a thing, and as BobK mentioned, there'd be some uproar. I'd like to see if its on the site.
