You know you're from NJ when:.
  • You don't think of citrus when people mention "The Oranges."
  • You've known the way to Seaside Heights since you were seven.
  • You're Italian.
  • You've eaten at a diner, when you were stoned or drunk, at 3 am.
  • You don't understand why there aren't more 24-hour diners elsewhere in the country.
  • Whenever you park, there's a Camaro within three spots of you.
  • You remember that the "Two Guys" were from Harrison.
  • You know that the state isn't one big oil refinery.
  • Your drinking water should not be used for drinking.
  • At least three people in your family still love Bruce Springsteen, and you know what town Jon Bon Jovi is from.
  • Your uncle is in the mafia
  • At least 5 people in your immediate family have asthma.
  • You once skipped school and went to Wildwood.
  • You know where to get the best bagels and pizza
  • Potholes are as common as mosquitoes
  • You know it can be -10 degrees and 70 degrees in January in the same year.
  • You know what a "jug handle" is.
  • You know that there are no "beaches" in new Jersey - there's "The Shore," and you know that the road to the shore is "The Parkway" not "The Garden State Highway."
  • Even your school cafeteria made good Italian subs, and, you call it a "sub" not a "submarine sandwich" or worse yet, a "hoagy"
  • The mafia runs half the businesses in your town.
  • You know how to properly negotiate a Circle.
  • You knew that the last question had to do with driving.
  • You think North Jersey is a different state and South Jersey deserves its own secession.
  • You know that this is the only "New..." state that doesn't require "New" to identify it (like, try ...Mexico, ...York, ...Hampshire (doesn't work, does it?).
  • Someone down the shore once called you a benny.
  • You only go to Manhattan for day trips, and you only call it "The City."
  • In the 80's you wore your hair REALLY high.
  • You will always say "YO", and you'll say it often.
  • You know that the only people who call it "Joisey" are idiots who think they are imitating a New Jersey accent.
  • You don't think you have an accent.
  • You curse off three drivers in two minutes.
  • You can't believe MTV went to Seaside Heights.
  • You judge people from which exit they get off
  • You know that the real first "strip shopping center" in the country is Route 22.
  • You know that no respectable New Jerseyan goes to Princeton - that's for out-of-staters.
  • The Jets-Giants game has started fights at your school or local bar.
  • You live within 20 minutes of at least four different malls and thirty tanning saloons.
  • You've been seriously injured at Action Park
  • In the woods behind your house, you can find couches, washing machines, and shoes.
  • You can see the Manhattan skyline from some part of your town.
  • You refer to all highways and interstates by their numbers.
  • You think the Olive Garden is a bunch of crap
  • Every year, you had at least two kids in your class named Tony.
  • You take day trips to New York City.
  • You know where every "clip" shown in the Sopranos opening credits is.
  • You've gotten on the wrong highway trying to get out of Willowbrook Mall.
  • Your memories of places all consist of what you did there once when you were ****ed up.
  • You have a favorite Atlantic City casino.
  • Your middle school hangout was the mall
  • You haven't moved out of state soley for the reason you know the food is that bad everywhere else.
  • You don't have to go to red lobster to get fresh seafood.
  • You've had arguments over cheesesteak quality.
  • You've called someone an "*******" to their face at the Philly airport
  • You think we should sell north "Joisey" to New York for $24.
  • You think that even people living in South Jersey are hicks.
  • Honesty, sincerity, and courtesy are things you once saw happen in Ohio.
  • You say "water" weird.
  • You know where to get drugs in Paterson or Newark
  • If there is a dead body somewhere in or near the stream by your house.
  • Every time someone in Hollywood makes fun of Jersey, you're mad and proud at the same time
  • You start planning for Memorial Day weekend in February.
  • And finally...
  • You've never pumped your own gas

"You've been seriously injured at Action Park", my favorite. I know several who lost a lot of skin at the Alpine Slide.

Yes this is me. It amazes me the number of people who have never set foot in New Jersey but yet bash it and get all their education about NJ from comics or episodes of the Sopranos. We know more than a few people up here who are like that. I will always be a Jersey girl-whether I get to move back or not and I always defend my home state.

You start planning for Memorial Day weekend in February.

I agree. Since I have moved to New Hampshire-holidays-especially the summer ones-Memorial, July 4th and Labor Day holidays do not feel the same. It is very different on a normal day up here but when those holidays roll around it is really really different. Summer does not have the same "feel" up here- I guess that is good that we have a few trips planned back to NJ this summer

You know how to properly negotiate a Circle.
You knew that the last question had to do with driving.

My husband is amazed that even after 12 yrs away from circles, I can still master them like a pro. He says they freak him out! LOL!
