I agree the PATH trains are very crowded during rush. I am fortunate enough to work in the Meadowlands. I drive everyday but my friends who take the PATH into the city tell me its misery. Its difficult to imagine what those trains will look like once 70 Columbus and all of the other high rise apartments open in the coming years. Hopefully there is a plan in place, but given that the city and the port authority are not very known for working together I'm sure its just going to get worse.

Regarding grocery stores... Not many great options downtown. I usually go to Key Foods, which is small, but its quiet and Id rather go there than deal with the crowds at ShopRite, which I hear is going to be closing soon as developers are taking over the MetroPlaza. That is a very busy store and who knows where people will go once its closed. There is a PathMark on Grand St, but I've never been inside. There is a Morton Williams in Newport, but crazy expensive.

The Pathmark on Grand St is really depressing and generally terrible. Would not shop there.

ShopRite is supposed to stay open during the construction on its site. They're going to build a building where BB&B is located that ShopRite will move into, then close the old ShopRite location for development. The move won't happen until 2019 at the earliest anyway. I wouldn't base a decision on where to shop or live on something so far off.

Good thing ShopRite can move because it must be a money maker. That place is gernally busy. Interesting stuff going on at the old PepBoys. Looks like a street art museum of some sort. I see an art opening? Wonder whats going on with that building?

In general, Jersey City is great depending on where you live. I've never lived in a city more divided between rich and poor. Downtown and the Heights seem like great places, right? There are so many parts of JC needing rehab. I've made a few wrong turns in my car and have ended up in parts of town I would have never knew existed otherwise. There are parts of JC that look like hell on earth. It's drepressing to know that just a half mile away horrible slums and poverty exist. Drugs and gangs certainly exist here. It seems most of the political focus is on downtown and JSQ. That is where the money is. Even the roads are better downtown. Driving west up Mongtgomery you will see the roads quickly deteriorate when you hit the poor side of town. Garbage all over sidewalks and such.

Eventually, and it will take some time, all of Jersey City will be rehabilitated, especially in places where the light rail and PATH exist. Mass Transit seems to be the trigger to pull in terms of helping out struggling hoods. People in Hamilton Park are very williing to walk a long way in the winter to get to the PATH train. I know people who grew up here and said it was a very differnt place in the 70s and 80s. They basically say Downtown Jersey City was not a place to be. As Manhattan gets more expensive and expansive, so does Jersey City. The same thing went down with Hoboken, but JC is much larger and now its expanding farther out from the Downtown/Grove Street area.

I predict great things for the this city. All neighborhoods just need the same attention.
