Question For Upper Sussex Cty. NJ/Milford area PA/& Hudson Valley-Orange Cty NY residents or transplants.

Of the three areas, and in your opinion/experience, or that of others you know,
which of these three regions provides more for the money, with better tax rates on homes, and nearness to amenities/possible work opportunities, and general development?:

Upper Sussex county NJ, lower to mid Orange county, or the Milford/Matamoras area of PA?

Any info. on comparative cost of living, safety of the regions, as well as anything else you deem important to know about these areas is valuable as well.

Thank you

They are pretty similar: ruralish areas that are outside of the main NYC suburbs. Whether its NJ, NY, or PA you want to be as close as possible to Bergen/Passaic/Morris/Rockland counties. That's where the jobs are.

True dat :O)

(Try telling that to the guy over on the NY boards, he/she seems to feel there are deep distinctions to the areas..

We've been through all these areas over the last decade and have some awareness of theses places.. :^/ )

Which makes sense..

Except that jobs have not really been that great, in terms of work opportunities, for us here in Northern NJ these last 7-8 years..

We understand that all areas have distinctions, for e.g upper Sussex county may be slightly less developed, in some parts, than, say, some parts of Orange county NY; but then the taxes there and cost of living may, actually, be worse, in some places..in NY, I mean..

(We've run the numbers, we know this..)

Jersey's a great place, but really kind of becoming cost prohibitive for we who do not have a super duper job in the city, nor NJ.

And Milford, 'though lovely, is more of a pocket than a big region, it seems..

But, in theory, you're right, regionally, these places aren't that far apart, and do have a lot of commonalities..

P.S.

Fwiw,

So far JERSEY is winning..

We've already done some real research into parts of PA and NY State..

And...

(from this past weeks' vantage, anyhow...)

the New Jersey (and PA as well), people seem to be warmer and more friendly and helpful than
some who have answered, (around here and in other places), from NY state, or commenting on the NY boards on this topic..
to me..

Good GRAVY,

I didn't come here for 'tude, just some honest answers to honest questions...

What's the point in people answering questions and being helpful, if they're going to get all rude and snappy and up in all y'alls face about it?

(..steps of soapbox..)

We've met some decent folks in NY State, and it's a really lovely, invigorating place to be, in terms of the beauty of the land and nature..Much of the older architecture is grand..

I know of one person, (a former Professor), who resides in Orange county NY, and was a tremendous educator, and a
GENUINELY NICE human being....We have family we love to bits and pieces from the boroughs..

So, I'm not sure what gives with the cranky 'tudes these days from those in NY State out that side of the map..

Other than maybe God trying to tell us sumpthin..

Yes,

so far

Jersey is winning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(We're from Jersey, you?)

i can ensure you living in milford your going to have to make a hike to find any jobs (unless your living in town of milford and not outer parts with the communitys ect. ex:woodlands) . matamoras is going to be a bit cheaper then milford. if your on a budget make yourself over to port jervis ny.
-lived in milford my whole life up till last year

Its hard to say which of these bordering tristate counties is a standout ideal place to live.Pike and Orange would be slightly cheaper to buy property and pay taxes but otherwise your commuting and living costs would be higher. Both areas are dead as far as civilization goes , alot of trashy rundown towns in the middle of nowhere meaning no jobs,no property value, crazy commutes and expensive cost of gas(much higher than nj) and those two areas are filled with alot of drugs and trash, spread out land and farms, alot of woods, rundown towns and junky trailemors all over.Sussex county is much more to buy homes and close to the pa and ny areas looks about the same but gradually looks nicer as you commute to more suburban areas of nj towards nyc.Truthfully I wouldnt live anywhere in those areas, they all kinda stink!

In defense of lower NY State, I just want to say, there are actually some really cute, developed towns up there..
and, I am sure not all the folks there are like the ones we've had to deal w/recently..

In fairness, it would not be right to make a vast determination of a region, based on a few cold ones..

But many of these replies offer food for thought..
and do concur with much of what we've heard and seen..

Thank you again for your feedback. It's been a helpful thing..
