Doesn't matter where you buy furniture as long as you buy good quality Made in America furniture. Not the cheapo Made in Amercia crap, that is junk too. If you want today's "in furniture" just buy the foreign crap that most places sell. It will probably last as long as it stays in style. Good quality American made furniture never goes out of style.
The old saying "cheap is expensive" applies to furniture just like it does to most everything else.
It stinks to say, but, if you want a sectional that will last, you are going to have to pay $3,000-$4,000. I know that this is double their price range, but, have them look at it this way....
Spend $2,000 now on a sectional that they won't be happy with in 5 years b/c it begins to sag, forcing them to go out and spend another $2,000 on another sub-par sectional, or, bite the bullet and spend the money now for something that will last.
I agree that it's ridiculous that you can't get a quality sectional for $2,000, but, unfortunately, that seems to be the case.
Have them add up all of the money they've spent on couches in past 10 years -- I bet it's more than $3,000-$4,000. It may be better to spend the money now so they don't have to deal with the hassle and stress of furniture shopping every 5 years or so.
If you want a good-quality sectional sofa that is made in the US, I suggest that you look at units made by Flexsteel.
One of the retailers of Flexsteel furniture in Central NJ is The Flemington Department Store, which tends to have decent pricing.
All of that being said, I think that the OP is a few decades out of date if he expects a high-quality sectional sofa for $2,000.
