Apartments in/around Essex County? (Bloomfield, West Orange: to rent, safe area, college)

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any apartments in Essex (or surrounding counties with good commute time to W.O.), pref. in/around West Orange (or other safe areas). I'm debating whether or not I just want to rent a furnished room, or actually spend just a bit more and get more privacy. I've heard of Westmill apartments, but what I've read online (opinions) haven't been pleasant for the most part.

Opinions/help? I'm not looking to spend more than 1100 a month, studio is preferred (unless 1 bedroom comes up near the same price). I'm a college student, early 20's, and no children or pets.

God, I sound like a broken record, but look into Nutley. You can a large apartment for 1,100 with a driveway (not all the time).

Sorry, I know they're redundant questions. I just want to make extra sure to be in a safe neighborhood, being a single college female.

Also check Cedar Grove Gardens on Pompton Ave. There's also several complexes on Bloomfield Ave in Caldwell. Good luck!
