Can anyone ballpark how much it would cost to level a backyard in Bergen County? Property is 65*100 so backyard is probably 65*40 tops. I had 11 trees back there but have since had 10 removed (and 12 stumps). There are many roots sticking up still so hoping to cover all with topsoil and raise the ground about 6" in total to be flat and level before installing new fence. Received one quote for $2,400, I just dont know if that is a reasonable amount or not.

Thanks!

sod or seed, and how many inches of dirt on top? 3 inches on a 65*40 lawn is 25 cubic yards. In my town that is around $600 just for dirt.

Neighbor in BC cleared his backyard 10 yrs ago. He had trees removed then flattened out himself with a little front end loader. One thing he did is got his sod delivered from south Jersey. He saved a ton of money. Pays to shop around.

6 inches of dirt on top, then using seed and hay.

Will the yard require any type of retaining wall to hold the additional soil? That would be an added expense, if applicable.

Nope, won't need a wall.

I would think that $2400 is a good price. $1100+ just for dirt, add on the seed, and the labor. You would be amazed how long it would take to spread that much dirt. I had a similar quote, but there was a little bit added since I didn't want them to drive the truck to the back yard to dump the dirt (and they wanted to take down part of my fence) since the front yard grass was in great shape

I got them down to $2,200 for removal of a bush and rocks along with 20 yards to top soil, level of backyard reseeding with premium grass seed and cover with hay. I think it was fair. Thanks.

500 sq ft? or 500 sq yards? I thought I had a small lawn
