400k does not get you a SFH that isnt a dump in WW/P, so why bring it up? Guy is on one salary, with kids, plus the insane tax bill. Have you ever heard the expression "there is an ass for every seat". It means no matter what a home looks like, or where it is, it will sell for a price. May be less, may be more, depending on factors. The guy said I DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE SCHOOLS. SO why send him the poor house for a dump in WW/P when he can get a great home in Lawrence for under 400k?? Oh NO, WWP has 1 more AP class!!!!
The school "rankings" obsession by some posters here is nauseating.
Quoting tonystarksNJ: "400k does not get you a SFH that isnt a dump in WW/P,"
You are very mistaken. Do these listings and pictures show dumps?
And if the OP is willing to do a little updating, for a lower priced home (and in the future, if the OP desires, there is plenty of room for expansion, since the home is on a little over a half acre) there is this listing:
All of the above listings are for SFH within the WW/P district. Yes one is listed slightly over 400k, but with negotiating, it will likely sell right around 400K, and perhaps even a little below. I found all of these listings within a very short search, maybe 10 mins and just checking two sites - I'm sure if I spent a little more time and effort, I'd find more listings.
I prefer actual data, not generalities in information being provided. That is my engineering training speaking.
I agree...I'd much prefer suggestions and recommendations based on actual facts and statistics, rather than generalizations and peoples perceptions and opinions, which by their very nature are biased.
thanks.
renting is our first option. but I think under current housing market, buying might be a better financial decision. I don't expect us to change job within 5 years. that's one of the reason we consider this offer.
we are in Florida now.
we already know that we are probably going to miss the weather, relatively cheap housing as well as tax, even though FL has high property tax.
in exchange for better job opportunity, accessing to big city, much better education system and maybe four seasons
I guess the only concern is whether the current offer is good enough to support our family.
how much it will cost to rent a 3/2 townhouse in those safer towns. say, hopewell, princenton, west windsor, those are towns seems nice based on my research but also looks more expensive.
what about lawrenceville and hamilton?
We moved here from the south too. We moved for a job opportunity and better public education for our child.
Lots of differences in Mercer Co. NJ from Princeton to Trenton. You just need to find your comfort level.
For a 30 min. commute to North Trenton, you can live just about anywhere in Mercer County or nearby Bucks Co. Pa.
Home values are vastly different between towns and school districts.
Property taxes do not necessarily reflect the quality of the school district.
No one has mentioned Robbinsville, NJ yet, so I will. Promising school district, close to Hamilton and Princeton Jct train stations (for casual trips to NYC/Philly).
