That's guesswork troubleshooting. Not good advice.
A service guy will jump out the stat before replacing it. If you have the ability try that.

Well, its dad who pays the energy bills and he decided to wait it out at my aunts house instead of buying a new thermostat and fixing it. He paid money for worry free service anyways, so why not make use of it to get our heating issue fixed. I had no say in the final decision .

You can take the advice of somebody with 40 years in the construction industry and knows how to fix things or you can take the advice of somebody who will return open packages to HD that nobody else will buy.And still the furnace will not be working.

Cheap is expensive.

I agree, but the guy was in a jam, and needed heat now. A 10 min trip to home depot, a cheapo $25 Thermostat, and he might have been in business. If not, then he returns the thermo and hes back at square one, nothing lost.

cheap actually wouldn't be expensive here. if it works, it was a cheap fix. if it doesn't work, it costs nothing but time and gas. also, if it had worked it would have solved the problem fast which would have been ideal.

im sure PDD knows some things very well, but he has the thought capacity of a caveman and he is very grumpy to boot.

But cavemen were pretty self sufficient, they knew how to light a fire to stay warm.

Yes some people are grumpy but experienced enough to know how deal with the phonies. I send them to the ignore list.
