Hi Everyone!
We need to relocate for a job I've been offered in Wayne NJ. My hubby works in Plainsboro just outside of Princeton. Would a commute from Essex County (Nutley-ish area) be awful? Anyone do it? I would imagine that the majority of traffic would be the opposite direction. But who knows.
I should add that he is a teacher and is generally at school by 7:30am and leaves by 4pm.
Thank you for any thoughts!!!
I have to do this commute occasionally for work, though not the exact times mentioned.
I'd honestly say the Garden State Parkway/Route 1 drive from Northern NJ to Princeton may be the worst, most traffic filled commute in the state. The lights and tolls will wear on any sane person quickly.
A co-worker of mine will go literally ten miles out of the way to take the turnpike home to avoid it. Just keep in mind the traffic going from Route 18 in New Brunswick to the turnpike can be just as awful starting early afternoon if you go that route.
Thanks everyone..
Thanks annerk.. I was considering Nutley since it's close to the city, for future job opportunities. I also have family there. I will look into those other areas.

The Basking Ridge/Bernardsville area is a good recommendation as an area to look at, better commute for hubby plus you have the midtown direct trains for your employment opportunities. It is a wonderful safe area with great schools. I had to make the commute from that general area a couple of times a month (sw of Morristown to Forrestal Center in Princeton) and it would take 1.25 to 1.5 hrs typically. You might also want to look at towns along the rte 1 corridor heading up towards NYC from Princeton. There is also West Windsor, which is a wonderful area, it would provide a short commute to Princeton, and there is good train access to NYC (which I believe takes ~1hr). It really depends on what you are seeking in a town, as well as your budget.
