Hi.

Im soon going to be moving from Northern California to Jersey City, probably to the Paulus Hook area with my wife and small child. We're looking for a rental whilst we settle in to the area and get our bearings. I can easily see how much rent costs for 2 BR's in that area - seems like +/- 2800 + parking is about the going rate for most of the rentals there, but im finding it impossible to get some estimates for what my utility bills will be. It seems like most of Paulus hook has electric only used for heat, cooking etc and im interested in what this might cost through the winter. Could someone give me some estimates for what i can expect in the winters and summers. i appreciate it varies on usage, but i'd really be grateful for some ballpark figures. Is 300/ month through the winter reasonable, or should i budget higher?

Thanks in advance

Harry.

Not sure, because I don't have electric heat, but welcome to NJ. I work in that area, although I live far from there, and it's really nice. Great view of lower Manhattan and the rising WTC towers, too.

Electric heat can get expensive in the winter, but A/C is cheaper in the summer. I think a good estimate for heat for a 1,000 sq/ft 2bd/2ba is around $200-300 per month. Also, some of the apartments in Paulus Hook do have gas heat, it just depends on the building.

Welcome to the 'hood!
