I'm currently searching for an apartment in Jersey City, as I am taking a job there starting February 1st.
- Been to JC quite a few times, driven through B-L section once or twice. I was wondering how crime is in this area? I'm looking there since apartments are cheaper and I would be located next to the light rail (my job is at the Essex Street light rail station).
- Currently live in Washington, DC in an "up-and-coming" neighborhood, so I'm not worried about a little crime or "urban decay" but I also don't want to be moving into a war zone.
Is Bergen-Lafayette worth it for the price? Any other neighborhoods you would suggest for cheaper apartments with close proximity to the light rail?
The B-L section of Jersey City is not up and coming. It's pretty nasty, I'd say one of the worst neighborhoods in JC. Check out Downtown or the Heights...
You will be fine, I live downtown my taxes are high as heck and I got mugged 2 x and broken into 6 times... downtown is ok I find that greenville and BL which gets a bad rep is not as bad as downtown. I lived in greenville and BL and never got robbed or broken into.
