It's a much better area and has better schools than Lawrenceville. As I mentioned also look at West Windsor.

I believe they have their own elementary and middle schools but go to Princeton High School which is one of the top ranked HS in NJ as is West Windsor/Plainsboro HS (both North and South)

Cranbury is an older town (historic, quaint and upscale) on a lake with a really nice downtown type Main St. It has some nice shops and places to eat and get ice cream. I truly feel it is one of the nicest towns not only in Central Jersey but in the state.

Two things to consider; 1) Where are you going to be working. If it's in the city (NYC), you can take the train at Princeton Junction (West Windsor) or a bus that picks you up right off RT 130 near the 8A exit of NJ Turnpike. Either way you're looking at a little over an hour commute, which is totally normal for NJ. If it's anywhere from New Brunswick down to Trenton then you're in an ideal spot.

Second thing to consider is cost. Average home price in the area is over 600K and taxes will be high as they are in West Windsor. But as the saying goes you get what you pay for. If you're interested in schools, safety, great place to raise kids and high quality of life you can't beat it.

Cranbury is a great little town, very tiny main street (downtown) with a couple of restaurants an old book store, ice cream shop and a few little shops.

There is only one school, an elementary k-8. They send their kids to Princeton HS.

Be aware that East Windsor shares a zip code with Cranbury. Make sure any house you look at is actually within the Cranbury Town limits otherwise your kids will be zoned for East Windsor schools. Big difference if really good schools are important for you.

When we were looking, the deal breaker was not having a neighbourhood HS. There were fewer than 600 kids in the elementary school (k-8) so I envisioned spending much time in the car once the kids hit HS.
But that's just me, Cranbury is a popular little town, thus the high price of real estate.

Oh and many to the west cut through Cranbury on their way to the Turnpike.

In 2010, Cranbury Twp. had the lowest tax rate in Middlesex County. Taxes (tax rate) are low; real estate is high.

Cranbury Township, New Jersey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"For the 1996-97 and 2009-10 school years, Cranbury School was formally designated as a National Blue Ribbon School, the highest honor that an American public school can achieve."

"For grades 9 to 12, Cranbury students attend Princeton High School, as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Princeton Regional Schools. Cranbury Township is granted a non-voting seat on the Princeton Regional Schools Board of Education, with the designated representative only voting on issues pertaining to Princeton High School and district-wide issues."

I lived there for a short time and liked the town. I remember one night I saw police checking to make sure the businesses' doors were locked. I never saw that before.

You can't go wrong, if you decide to move to Cranbury.

This is a very small section of East Windsor, the development off Rt 130 and Old Cranbury Rd (Millstone Dr, Rocky Brook Rd etc) uses Cranbury 08512, the rest of EW and Hightstown use 08520.

For the record East Windsor's schools are not exactly terrible either. I doubt anyone on a budget could get by in Cranbury. It is very expensive since it is a very historic town. I would not rule out EW either. Cranbury's zip code also spills into South Brunswick too, but I think only in the industrial park.

That area is called "Cranbury Manor" and is in the East Windsor school district.
