Do any of you think South Jersey could support a professional sports franchise. If so what sport? (EX: NBA, NFL, MLS, NHL, MLB)

Once Lacrosse and Soccer become very popular it can support a few teams...

I could see a pro team at the Jersey Shore more particularly Atlantic City, maybe an NHL or a MLB team. The Philadelphia sports market is big enough to support two teams in one league. The Bay Area has two teams in MLB and the NFL and it is a smaller market than the Philadelphia market. A team at the Jersey shore could be a nice fit I think.

The Vineland Vipers? Probably not...

And lacrosse looks fun to play but it's kind of lame when I've seen it on tv.

Nope, and I live here, love it here, and half think we should be our own state.

I don't think there would be any demand for this at all. Everyone loves their Philly teams too much. Like somebody above said, maybe down the shore since it has its own semi-distinct identity, but that's about it. I think more minor league teams could do very well, though. The Riversharks have a decent sized fan base. I can see a farm team for the Union someday, or a reincarnated Phantoms, or something along those lines.

NJ has its taxpayer preoccupied with the Dems and Repubs sports teams and union cheerleaders.

eh. i don't think so. NHL, we have the Devils, Rangers, and Islanders in Ny metro area, and only the Rangers really draw a consistent crowd. As for MLB, Philly and Baltimore aren't really all that far apart, and there's an MLB team in each city already. i doubt Philly would even agree to allow a team into the MLB that close (i forget how far the team's legal monopoly extends, but MLB teams can block another team from coming within a certain distance. Baltimore argued against the Nats for this reason, but a compromise was reached).

NFL, if it expands, will add a team to L.A. long before it comes to south jersey.

Soccer has a great new team in Philly and the "NY" team in Harrison, NJ. Queens will get a team soon enough, I can't see south jersey getting an MLS team for quite some time either.

i just don't see which league would even want to put a team there, and i highly doubt one could be supported.

Agree - the S Jersey market one is dominated by Philly and Philly sports and two as a stand alone S Jersey is only 1.7 million or so depending on which boundaries one would use
