Hi all, newbie here. Looking to potentially move to River Place later this year, and after checking out the area, it seemed to be pretty nice. Ignoring all I have heard about the city's reputation, I just wanted to see if someone could give me an honest answer to this question. Is the downtown area safe for a young female to be walking around at night? We like the fact that there are bars and restaurants that are in walking distance from the train and the building, but it does us no good if we can't feel safe walking there.

We do not care about the school system as we are nowhere near having kids - just young professionals looking for a safe place to live in proximity to mass transit.

Thanks a lot for the info!

There was a real estate person who used to use this site , but hasn't been on in a while. I would just ask the locals , your not going to get a real or fair answer on this site. Alot of people think Rahway is a disgusting city and unsafe....but thats far from the truth , they think the State Prison is in Rahway but its in Woodbridge. This problem of trash talking cities / towns on this site is a big issue , so i would just go in person and ask the locals. City Hall and the Police Dept are blocks away , everything you need is located in the CBD except a few services like Groceries and Home Improvement.
