Realistically, how much impact does higher gas prices have on a trip to the shore? An extra $10 or $20? I can't believe that would stop that many people from going.
My problem is that I work so far from home that going to the shore when gas is $4.00 or more makes it a P.I.T.A. Eighty miles 'round trip is pretty bad you times that by five, I'm at the gas station a few times more then before in between fill ups. I drive a four cylinder car too it's not like a V8 or anything that sucks down crazy amouts of fuel.
Gas prices might have a slight effect on LONG day trips. These could become shorter day trips to closer beaches or maybe a few fuller cars.
People who stay overnight or longer will not be affected. The cost of rooms, meals and more far exceed a few extra dollars for gas. One of the nice things about the Shore is that, once you are there, very little driving is required.
Higher gas costs may increase and extend these stays, 'close to home'. I have heard upbeat reports about early reservations.
^Bingo. Maybe you'll see fewer NJ yellow tags on the way to the Outer Banks, but the Jersey Shore will be hummin. I'll see you guys down there.
agree. i know personally we're supposed to do an RV trip in the Dakotas this summer but we may not go b/c of airline prices. the net net is we'll probably be down in LBI more in that case.
long beach island hasnt been nearsly as busy the past few years as i remember it as a kid. but i doubt it will be any different this summer than the last few summers. plus, i see they have built another lane going down there so that should be nice to have. more lanes, no trains. thats what i like to say (well ive never said it before but i think it would bother certain people).

That extra lane is going to be fabulous for LBI this year. Last year, it was hell because of the construction.
I love cars.
