The bigger homes around Buckingham Estates, or down Dunhams are around $20,000 or more. If you look in surrounding towns, it is not even closen for the same size.
If you're talking about the homes that are $750,000 and up it's because most of them are newer (2000 and newer) and 3500+ square feet. They are really large, newer homes that are in the upper echelon price level for East Brunswick. A tax price tag like that should be expected in most of NJ for a home like that.
Oh please let's not drag schools into this. The schools spending the most money in NJ are the Abbott districts.
Uh, those aren't exactly fully funded with local tax dollars.
But, hey, schools cost money, and not sure how to keep their costs out of the discussion. And if a town considers good schools (and perhaps less dense commerical development) to be attractive for quality of living, then someone has to foot the bill.
My parent's house in EB is 4br, 2.5 bath on 1/3 of an acre. The house is around 2000-2400 sq ft. It is right next to the HS and was built in 1969. I believe their property taxes are around $10,000.
