Yes, but only emissions will be checked.

My trucks both failed in July, do I have to have them redone?

Here is the official FAQ:

http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/pdf/Inspe...inspection.pdf

You must get the vehicle inspected when the current sticker expires. They will only be checking emissions. The caveat to this is vehicles purchased new between 2006 and 2010. These vehicles will be receiving a new sticker showing that they get an extra year, for a total of 5 before inspection is necessary. Once the 5 year period is up for a new car, you must get inspected every two years.

If you are driving on an expired sticker and get the car inspected now, they will only check emissions.

If you had the vehicle inspected prior to the change and it failed, you MUST repair the items the vehicle was failed for before getting it re-inspected. So, if you went at the end of July and failed for ball joints or something, they must be repaired before you will get a new sticker.

I already got my 1 year extension sticker in the mail (I bought my car new 4 years ago so it was supposed to be inspected this year). DMV automatically sent it to me, I didn't have to do anything. The sticker gets placed above your current inspection sticker.

Hi All!
Here is an interesting one:
I purchased my 2007 car in 2009. It was certified used car. So there was no "New Car Dealer" sticker on it.
I had to go to DMV inspection station and get a 2 years purple sticker.
This purple sticker (like all used cars) expires in September 2011.
Yesterday I received a 1 year extension.
Am I eligible for that extension?
Can I place it next to purple sticker?
I tried to google this question but no answers, but it seems like those extensions should be placed next to "New Car Dealer" stickers only... If so why did they send this to me?

Thanks!

You're eligible. Any vehicle (2006 and up) is eligible for 1 year extension. It doesn't matter if you bought it used. Didn't you read the leaflet that came along with your sticker?
