Ended up getting off at the wrong exit one time a few years ago with my now ex-girlfriend (from Jackson, so she'd been used to woods and trees and farm country her whole life) when we were going to my grandmother's house, ended up taking Rt 70 to Springdale Rd, drove past that Springdale Farmers Market and I'm like "look, the last farm in Cherry Hill."

It's funny because people moan and groan about them destroying forest or farmland and building houses on top of it. I grew up with that and so did my mother. Where I live now I see signs up all over the place saying "no warehouses on farmland" and people complaining about them destroying farmland for industrial space. I don't know, but if it had to be destroyed I'd rather them put business there instead of more houses, so my property taxes would be lower.
Scroll down on this & it mentions the Ellisburg town hall. They say if it was still standing that it would be near McDonalds. They destroyed it to build McDonalds. Cherry Hill Township I can remember standing in front of that building to catch the bus to Philly. (before PATCO) We would walk down to the circle, & cross the roads on foot Try that now!

Yeah wow! I had the luxury of running on Haddonfield-Berlin Rd once too when we were down at Woodcrest pool a few years ago. I'm a distance runner and decided to run once I got there since it'd be a different scenery than at home.

I know where the Ellisburg Circle used to be, 70, 41/Kings Hwy and 154/Brace Rd right? Did Ellisburg used to be its own town and then get merged with Cherry Hill?

My take on it is that Ellisburg & Colestown were small towns within Waterford Twp.. A piece was broken off & became Delaware Twp. Ellisburg & Colestown were in that piece. Ellisburg & Colestown sort of faded away & the whole thing became one, but Colestown Cemetery remains & the Ellisburg Shopping Center commemorates Ellisburg. The town hall was all that remained of Ellisburg, & it's been gone for years. Cherry Hill Mall was built & it was at one time the largest mall in the country. People would say that they were going to Cherry Hill, & eventually the town was changed from Delaware Twp to Cherry Hill Twp. . That's the short version. When my family moved there it had just been renamed

You have the former site of Ellisburg Circle correct.

Years ago there was little traffic, but it would be hideous during racing season. As things built up to the east, it was like racing season all year long. Cutting out circles didn't help much, & that was only briefly.

On a more humorous note, NC is actually building the round-about versions of circles.

Wow talk about memories. Have lived on the west side of Cherry Hill my entire life (since '70) Some things of note: That McDonalds is one of the few that didn't have the drive through attached to the kitchen area, which shows you how old it was. I remember the farmer's market on the circle, we used to get our christmas trees there. Could you imagine Haddonfield road as a two lane road with only two traffic lights from Route 38 into Haddonfield? Elisburg was its own incorporated town from what my parents say, they borrowed the police department from delaware township, but they had their own fire department, school, etc. My parents also went to the Latin Casino off of Route 70, its gone now but all the greats from Sinatra to Ray Charles played there. And I remember going to the drive in movies off of 168 in Collingswood/Camden area. My parents still live in the same house they did 50 years ago, when they had well water...well water!

They're bringing them back in Monmouth County, NJ too - they just added one by the entrance to Brookdale Community College, where there used to be a light - and the traffic backs up there for miles, worse than it ever was before, god it makes me sick! Moreover, everytime they work on a road in Monmouth County the traffic gets worse after it's completed. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore, was never happier than the day I got out of there.

My grandparents did say they heard that Cherry Hill used to be called Delaware before 1960. But they weren't there for that since they didn't move there until 1970. The mall there was the first to open in NJ and only the second in the whole country. Think the second in NJ was Brunswick Square in East Brunswick, which EB was like Central Jersey's version of CH in the 1960s-70s only it didn't grow as fast since CH is much closer to a major city than EB is so EB is not as big or built out. Take a drive down Rt 70 and then drive on Rt 18 through East Brunswick it's like driving on the same road. Stores and shopping centers literally on top of each other with the speed limit down to 45mph. Only difference is 18 has three lanes each way with a tight "Jersey Wall" and no shoulders or temporary acceleration/deceleration lanes and a handfull (or less) of jughandles, while 70 still has only two each way with many more temporary lanes, wide shoulders and a wider median with room for left-turn lanes. Traffic backs up horribly on both roads. Off the highways the development is very similar. Two of the original "modern day Jersey suburbs" for ya.

I feel like Voorhees is getting a bad rep on this thread. I grew up here (on both sides of town) and I have to say it's a lot better than some here are making it out to be. Eastern is an excellent school, not sure what everyone is talking about. We joke around that Echelon and the Club apartments across from Main Street are "ghetto" but they really are fine. Hopefully when it's completed the Voorhees Town Center will make the Echelon area a bit nicer. As for a Jewish presence, there really isn't much of a difference between most of Voorhees and eastern Cherry Hill. Personal experience, I've been to more bar mitzvahs than I can count. There's about 4 or 5 synagogues within a 10 minute drive from my house, plus the JCC (which is in Cherry Hill). So yea, Voorhees is a great town, as are the Voorhees Public Schools and Eastern High School.
