I'm relocating from a place that doesn't have a gazillion tolls. I will live and work in SNJ. However I anticipate driving into Philly often, NYC or DC monthly if not more frequently and up into Boston occasionally. My understanding is that I can use one EZ pass across states. Any advice please?

I've used EZ Pass as far south as DC and as far north as Maine.

You can also use it in Indiana, Ohio, and Illinios. As well.

Definately use EZ-Pass, the high speed lanes alone make it worthwhile.

I am also a convert. Do it and you will never look back to the days of fumbling for change, dropping your wallet/purse in the back seat, etc.

So does it matter which state I get it from?

I'd get it in NJ - each state administers their own EZ Pass program. In NJ, you call Newark for Customer Service (I know this from when my account never auto-reloaded and I got charged $29 to cross the Ben Franklin Bridge). In SNJ, I believe you can order a transponder by mail. I don't remember having to pick it up in person. I'd just tie it to the same state as your car registration, insurance, etc. It's probably easier to manage that way IMO, but not sure if you are required to do that.
