My husband might be accepting a job in Mays Landing. We would need to live within 20 miles. I am curious about schools. We have one son and hopefully more kids on the way. As a teacher, I researched many schools on the NJ state report card. I was not very impressed. it seems like Linwood had the best schools. Can anyone share their experiences with schools in the areas as well as any towns that are good for young families? Your input is greatly appreciated!!!

I haven't heard anything about Mays Landing elementary schools, but they go to Oakcrest High School. On greatschools.org it had a rating of 5 out of 10 (10 being the best). Ocean City is about 20 minutes (maybe 30 in summer), and the back way, route 559, is one of my 2 favorite driving roads in south Jersey. It has a very good school system, and on greatschools OC High School was 8 out of 10. Linwood does have good elementary and middle schools, as is typical of wealthy areas. There kids go to Mainland High School though, which got 6 out of 10.

That said, all of these areas will be fine. Somer's Point is another to consider and close to Mays Landing. It is between Linwood and Ocean City. If you go toward Mays Landing, it's better in the town itself than the area near the mall, which has a lot of apartment complexes and more crime.

Pretty much what ocnjgirl said. Even going out 20 miles you aren't going to find anything better then Linwood and Ocean City in that area. Galloway might be a decent option as well, but that's probably the next step down from Linwood. The big problem you have in that area is even if there was something better within 20 miles, the commute for your husband in the summer would be horrible.

Mainland Regional School District's your best bet. Plenty of affordable homes to be had in the Northfield-Linwood-Somers Point corridor.
