A New York City entrepreneur, Shawn O'Connor quietly moved to Bedford, NH - ~mid 2013, to set up a branch of his New York company. Now he is exploring running as a Democrat against NH Senior Senator Kelly Ayotte. O'Connor just last week advertised for two key campaign positions.

Given some posters vehement opposition to Scott Brown's recent campaign, based solidly on carpetbagger grounds, I'm sure they will stay pure to their motives. Opposing yet another cheap opportunistic carpetbagger, regardless of political affiliation. Right?

Shawn O'Connor moved from New York City to Bedford last year and has not been particularly active in local Democratic politics. He has not given money to any federal candidates, including U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, according to the Federal Election Commission website. Though a day before the Nov. 4 election, he did give a $1,000 each to the Manchester Democratic Committee and to Executive Councilor Chris Pappas

All politics is local.

There is a mentality among some wealthy, successful people from the NYC metro area that we in northern New England are nothing but hicks who need the benefit of the "wisdom" that these people can offer when they move up here. And it isn't just politics, they move up here and immediately try to re-create whatever they left back home.

It's a free country and nothing is stopping this guy from taking a stab at it. My guess is he stands a snowball's chance in Georgia of getting the nomination. We may be a playpen for the wealthy from NYC, NJ, CT etc but that really only applies to the lakes, ski areas and tourist traps. It's hard to put the state politics up for sale in such a small state.

My 2 cents..

I have no use for open-borders Ayotte who had the gall to run for the senate 4 years ago to the right of the Tea Party, yet is really nothing but McCain in drag, but she's not going to lose the next election cause she ticks too many boxes for the current crop of voters in NH. It looks like the current governor is going after here in 2016 in any case, so O'Connor has a long hill to climb.

I tend to agree with FY - unless he burns a Yankees uniform in effigy on his front lawn (being a Mets fan wouldn't save him with any voter old enough to remember 1986), it's hard to imagine at this point he's even likely to win a primary.

I'm not sure what his motives are for running, but I do think there are at least some surface differences - he's not a career politician (like Clinton or Brown) and it's not clear he relocated just to run. He'll also have been in the state 3 years by the time the election actually rolls around. So that's...something.

It strikes me as being tone deaf and presumptious, so I wouldn't vote for him. But it's not quite as appalling as Clinton/Brown where in both cases the move by an experienced pol was purely a means to try and win a vulnerable seat (via personal celebrity and big-stage campaign experience).
