My partner and I are seriously planning for a move up to the lakes region. I am having an entrepreneurial moment (in my cube in NJ) and was wondering what kind of business the lakes region needs. Any products, services that you think the locals (and tourists) would LOVE to have?
I don't know if this is what you had in mind, but we could really use a *good* movie theater up here, i.e. with actual stadium seating. Right now we have to drive a good hour to get to the nearest modern movie theater in Hooksett.
I'm not sure how lucrative it would be, since even the small theaters are rarely full on opening nights, but maybe if people knew there was a better option, they would flock to it.

Huh ? "Gilford Cinema 8" in Gilford just past the Wal-Mart & Hannafords is a beautiful, modern complex with 8 movie venues.
I don't know when the Gilford Cinema 8 was built, but it almost certainly wasn't within the past 10 years. If you've ever been to one of the newer theaters in southern NH, you'll know that the differences are dramatic - Gilford's screens are considerably smaller, there is no digital projection, the sound system is outdated, the chairs much less comfortable, and it has no stadium seating, which has become standard for almost all movie theaters built in the last 10-15 years.
Here are some photographs from a church service held at a modern cinema in Newington:
As a recent transplant from NJ, we need good pizza.
I had to chuckle when I went to the pizza place in that little shopping place in Gilford (gas station, bank, near RT. 3 exit). When I asked them to put garlic on my pizza they used garlic powder! No crushed garlic. Funny.
