My wife and I looked at Florence, Co, who also had a prison. They said inmates rarely escape, and, if they do, they are getting out of town in a hurry. Is this true of the NSP in Carson?

My wife used to live in Sioux Falls, SD. The have a prison. They also have a population of 150,000+, so it isn't a big deal. But I don;t think they have ever had a problem in that city.

I also see it is on the FAR EAST side of town. From other things I have read, the east side is GANG TERRITORY in CC, so we should be staying away from that side of town anyway.

I'm just wondering, I guess, how does CC having a PRISON effect the ever day lives of residents?

My wife and I are very serious about moving to Carson City this fall!

Thanks!

very little gang activity, any town you move to gang members live. There are a lot of $$$ houses near the prison and the SWAT team is also close by. So consider yourself in a VERY safe area with all that security.

Sheriff statistics indicate decrease in Carson crime | NevadaAppeal.com

Stay home Andy -- the world is simply too scarey for you. Carson City is, for all intents and purposes, Mayberry RFD. If that frightens you...

I live in Ely which is where the state's max security prison is located. In the years I've been here, there hasnt been an escape (well, that the public has been aware of). I know there has been a few at the honor camp (minimum security prison) and a murder suspect once escaped from the county jail, but was shortly recaptured. Anymore, if there is a county prisoner they are worried about escaping, ESP will hold them for the county. I work at the hospital in town and we do see prisoners on occasion, but they are always shackeled and there is always at least two guards, one of which is armed, and sometimes more. They keep them away from normal hospital patrons, and in the event someone would have to be hospitalized, we have special security rooms that are like jail cells for them, and the prison provides at least 2 guards per prisoner. Plus, you may not have to worry about NSP much longer, they've been talking about closing it as parts of the prison are now over 100 years old.

I'd be much more worried about being in the prison than out of it. State cutbacks have brought staffing to dangerous levels. Just this week, the kitchen supervisor was attacked at ESP and suffered severe head trauma from an attack from a prisoner and had to be flown out.
