First ,Clark, I know you do not like Paradise Valley, or as you refer to it "Poverty flats". Don't have much choice, We own it, 10 acers.
Heres my story. Lived in Stead NV for about 25 years, decided to move ( big mistake). Moved to Colorado (bigger mistake), outside of Colorado Springs. According to the local news " The worst place in the nation to try to get a job". I belive them. We are being foreclosed on. Only place we have to go is our land. We have a small selfcontained travle traler that we will be living in on our land. I would like to know what the quality of the well water is like. aproximitley how deep. Any drilling companies you would recomend? And anything else that you think I should know about the area. I have lived in the high desert, no stranger to Nevada. I did live in Winnemucca about 25 years ago but in town and only for a little while. Back when Cashell opened the Star.
Thank You for your help

Last time I visited winny was the summer of 07. It's a very cute town with a few casinos and a handful of mom and pop shops and a Walmart Superstore. It's popular with truck drivers you have 2 truck stops. Also there is a small strip of legal brothels on Riverside. There is a very large police presence and they are notorious of stopping people for the pettiest of things and handing out tickets. Like many areas in NV, I noticed a large percentage of meth abuse. I found the town cute and safe and I also notice a large population of mormons from Utah.

You will also need a septic tank, a large propane tank to get you through the winters and maybe need to have electric lines brought up to your property from the highway. This isn't going to be cheap. The only business in the area is a Chevron station with a small mini-mart at the intersection of hwy 95 and 290.

Have you thought about living in Winnemucca? There are a couple of RV parks on the east side of town where you could park your travel trailer with all the hook-ups. You would be close to everything in town such as a supermarket, the Walmart, restaurants (mostly fast-food), etc. - maybe even a job.

We know that it will be hard, but we don't have much choice. Our trailer is self contained. They make a container that you can dump your black holding tank into and then transport it to a KOA campground and dump it. This is what we are planning on doing as we will not be able to aford a septic system right away. As far as propaine the trailer does have 2 5gal tanks on it and we can buy some larger ones if needed. We will just take them into town and have them filled up. Everything in our trailer runs off of either the two batteries or propaine, We also have a small gas generator. It will be like a very long extended camping on our land. If we were to move to a place in town like an RV camp, We would have to pay rent and would have trouble with our 3 large dogs and cat, possibley the chickens will be moving with us also.
If we live on our property we pay no rent, and can have our animals if as we wish. Where our parcel is located we have one neighbor with one 10 acre parcel between us and then the next nearest is about 3/4 miles away.
Our main concern at this time is fresh water. Does anybody know how deep the water is in the area? What is the Quality of the water? Does anybody have a drilling company that they would like to recomend?
Thank You for all of your concerns, But we would really like to know about the water in the area.
Thank You
