I'm 17. I currently live in Washington State. I'm not moving down there anytime soon (Assuming that i do move) I still have a lot of planning & personal issues that i have to deal with before such a option would be on the table. Anyways, i've been looking into the Laughlin, NV/Bullhead City, AZ/Needles, CA area and it looks nice. I'd just like a lil info about the area. And which is easiest to live in and make ends meet. How's the job market in the area? Is it difficult to find one? Thanks.

It gets very hot in these places during the summer. Today, it's about 110 degrees in those places. Can you afford to run the A/C 20 hours a day?

I'm already aware of that. I was in Arizona last month. You're not the first to remind me of the heat.

I was hoping to get more replies...

Why? What attracts you to an area some would consider the Armpit of both Nevada and California?

Wow, rude or what? Pray tell where you live that's so great.

To the OP, these are beautiful areas and centrally located. You will especially like these areas if you're an ourdoors person. You're right on the Colorado River, so plenty of water sports. Directly adjacent to the Mohave Desert for exportation, and within striking distance of Death Valley, and the entire southwest, really. Plus, you're 4 hours from LA, and 90 minutes from Las Vegas. On the negatives, I think most people relocating to these areas are retirees from CA. As far as work goes, it depends on your skills. There's not a whole lot of industry. Social scene ain't that hot for a young person, other than the Laughlin Casino nightlife. Oh, there's Lake Havasu City as well for a party town.

I just posted this in the pictures, thread. But here's a Laughlin sunset pano.

I happen to like the desert. And why would laughlin be the armpit of Nevada? If any anything, wouldn't that be Las Vegas? (Not trying to put down Vegas, i like Vegas.)

Yeah that's why i want to move there. Where Nevada, Arizona and California all meet so if i want to go to Vegas BAM, it's right there. Or if i want to go check out LA BAM, right there. If i want to explore the Mojave desert, not far away. Plus i have family in Arizona and it'd be nice to live closer to them, especially since i've only seen them on three occasions in the past 11 years. And you mentioned that the area doesn't have much of a night life, which doesn't bother me since where i live now doesn't have any kind night life whatsoever. Only in Seattle

Anyways, that's a beautiful picture of Laughlin.

Wouldn't be my first choice, but if thats what you want, so be it. As far as jobs, I think Laughlin is out because of your age, at least at the casinos. I think to work pretty much anywhere in a casino (not just gaming, but even housekeeping or a resturant) you have to be 21. Bullhead City isn't a big center of industry. There's some retail and resturants. Kingman in about 30 miles away but I dont think the situation is much better than BHC/Laughlin. Mojave CC has a campus in BHC and it looks like NAU and UofA have satellite centers in BHC if school is in the picture.

If you are set on AZ, I think the Phoenix area would be a better choice. Rents are very affordable and believe it or not, it's actually cooler in the summer than BHC/Laughlin. Lots of schooling choices and of course, ASU in Tempe. Still close to LA and LV (about 4 from Vegas, about 5 from LA and San Diego, which is infinitly better than LA imo). Frankly, Vegas sucks if you're under 21. Most places on the strip won't even let you get a room until you're 21, and a good portion of your entertainment options require you to be 21 (not just gaming and drinking, but alot of shows and comedy clubs dont let u21 in). Also consiter Tucson if Phoenix is too crowded for you.

Well, hopefully i can take a trip down there soon to see the area for myself. And i'll look into the Pheonix area aswell. I presumed that area would have been more expensive but whatever.

The towns Laughlin and Needles are considered by some to be the armpit of both CA and Nevada, and that would include what ever they call the homes on the AZ side of Laughlin. I did not say that was my opinion.

Interesting that in your defense of the towns, you did not refer to the towns, but to the surrounding lands. The surrounding lands, are spectacular, but, I was not referring to them.

It sounds like Guy is just doing the smart thing, and that is gathering data on a particular area he's interested in moving to. Exactly why I came here as well-to start gathering data on Elko, NV. I now live in Elko after scoring a job at the hospital there, and I found city-data.com to be fantastic in getting an early "feel" for the NE Nevada area. My wife and I found Elko to be remarkably close to what was described on here. So this internet system appears to be functioning properly!

Guy-Phoenix and Tucson both have some pretty appealing apartment rental deals going on because of the crappy economy. You can learn a lot by searching on the net for information on Arizona's largest cities. I like them both but we moved to Nevada from Willcox, AZ, so we "know" Tucson much more than Phoenix. I'll tell you my favorite shopping mall in Phoenix, if you care to know, it's called the Arizona Mills Mall. Great IMAX theater, lots and lots and lots of stores of all kinds, lots of restaurants of all kinds. And a store that has puppies for sale called Animal Kingdom. A great time can be had there-it also has a large game and video room and a movie theater with about 22 screens! Great mall!

Tucson is notably smaller than Phoenix, but still a large city in Arizona. Small clubs for rock shows that we enjoyed-one of them called Club Congress. It's located on the bottom floor of what was once a 3-story building. In a gunfight in which John Dillinger's gang was captured back in the 20's the 3rd floor burned in a horrible fire. Good venue for rock concerts now. And they have kept the old-world charm of the hotel rooms-including no TV but old world radios, intact. Great place to spend time at. Including lots of newspaper articles about the Dillinger Gang capture there and anything else and everything else that made the news at that hotel and Tucson in general. Fun place.

Tucson has some great CD and DVD shops called Zia's. A nice Convention Center in the center of town for games and concerts and church gatherings and convention display shows, etc., called, of all things, The Tucson Convention Center. Tucson's automobile traffic is nicely engineered around the city by frequent use of U-turns. I'm not kidding, I've never spent time in a city that uses the U-turn so much. You'll see what I mean by spending a few days driving there. Several great bookstores...Barnes and Noble, etc., grace the city.

Crime definitely exists in Tucson but my wife and son and I never saw any. You appear to be just as likely to get jumped in Willcox, AZ, as in Tucson, AZ. But my databank on crime is just one person's data, know what I mean.

Continue gathering data and may you end up where you like.

BTW-check out Boulder City, NV, too, during your searching. My wife and I loved spending some time there. We stopped to use their library's computers a couple times. Beautifully landscaped gardens and beautiful homes and what appears to be a decent little town not far from Vegas.
