I can't think of anyone better than Kennette Pyles who teaches the ISR method (infant swimming resource). This is great for infants all the way up to age 5 (maybe even older depending on the child). Both my children learned from her and I know lots of other families who have been taught by her. This is a very intensive way to learn. You have to go every day for 10 minutes (trust me that's enough), 5 days a week, until she thinks your child is ready. At age 3, I would guess it would take 5-6 weeks. At the end, they have a graduation test. Your child will be able swim to the side of the pool fully dressed including shoes and jacket. My then just-turned 2-yr old learned to do this. She used to teach at MTSS on Mallory Station Rd in Cool Springs. Now that it's changed ownership, I'm not sure. You can probably google her and ISR to find more info. I think someone even posted their child's graduation on youtube. If you want her info, you can DM me.

Now that you mention it, I do recall that it took a long time for her to get back to me after I initially contacted her. I think she doesn't reply until she kinda knows when she can fit your child into her schedule and right now it's her busiest time of year. My neighbor across the street has sent her children to Harpeth school of gymnastics for swim lessons for the past few years and really liked it.

Couldn't you take her to a pool yourself at 3 years old and help her learn how to swim?

Of course I could do that but I with other kids & a husband working it makes it tough for me to be one on one, and I am in no way an expert on how to teach the swimming to little ones.
Thanks again for everyone's suggestions, I appreciate it.

I teach ISR Lessons in the Brentwood area as well. I teach at the Indoor Sports Complex. You can reach the instructor nearest you and find our contact numbers by searching the Instructor Locator on our National website Infant Swimming Resource | Home.

Hello everyone! I am an experienced Red Cross Swim Instructor and water exercise instructor located in Kingston Springs and will be teaching private lessons this summer in my home. I teach all levels, but plan to focus on the pre-school levels, beginning as early as six months as I have a heated pool.

I will offer Beginning swim lessons, age appropriate or by swim evaluation to determine level. I can not teach diving as my in ground pool's depth of 5 feet does not permit safe diving. But your child will learn flotation, how to propel through the water, different strokes with proper breathing techniques, and most importantly, water safety. In addition, I will be offering shallow water exercise classes for strengthening and conditioning for arthritis and fibromyalgia patients as well as basic cardio classes. Please reply if interested of for more information. Have a wonderful day.
