Not sure how to do a poll thing. But here it goes. I've been here long enough to see what the reasons are for people moving here. 1: cost of living ( houses) 2: families with kids want better things for them 3: Area you live in now is overpriced 4: TN culture.

So here's the Poll:

1: Cost of Living

2: For the Kids

3: Where you live is now overpriced... seeking other options

4: Culture?

There it is. Let's see what happens when I post this...

None of the above. I was looking for a new job and found one in TN. I live in a low-priced area now, so cost was not a factor. My family lives in a high-cost area, so if I could get a job out there, I would.

As for culture, I'm a big believer in the idea that most places (at least cities) are large enough that you can find any kind of culture you're looking for. Sure, there are some regional differences, but lots of people here are saying how much they like the small town life in the area and I wanted an urban life and found it as well.

I feel a 'pull' to go there, a calling to help others there, to be a blessing.
The Christian Community and Christian Music is a big plus.
I hope your poll goes well!
blessings to you,

The driving factor for moving from our current home in northern CA is cost - we just can't afford to stay here in the long run unless I go to work full time and my husband and I have decided that as long as we have kids around we don't want that. Why Tennessee, because we eliminated about 75% of the other possibilities, and out of what was left, Tennessee seems like the best option.

Actually I am already here and lovin' it! Couldn't afford to live in Ft Myers, Fl any longer, with rising homeowners insurance, rising taxes and fees for everything under the sun! Sold house there and got twice the house here on twice the land for half the price. Got out just in time, the boom is over there and the economy is pittiful. People getting laid off left and right, real estate is at a standstill and crime is on the increase. God is an awesome God and we are so blessed to have gotten out of there before things turned really bad! Thankful to be here in Sparta, and lovin' every minute of it!

And, of course, some people simply want to be near family.

Wasn't it the writer Willie Morris (or maybe it was Pat Conroy) who said that sooner or later, all Southerners come home.

Well, that does put a slightly different spin on it, doesn't it, though when you think about it, Breakfast at Tiffany's had that dark side, too.

Let's hope most of us wander back a little sooner...

Thanks for the info!

Hi PattiW, We also moved from Fort Myers. What part were you in? We now live in the Nashville area and love it. Just like you, we sold our house just before the housing bust took place.
