We live in Portland Tn. (moved here 2yrs ago) we have been to Broadway a couple times and my wife has been to the Sommet Center and we both have been to the Convention Center (to A RV Show)....

Anyway:

We have tickets to see Reba and George on the 28th at 7:00. Our plan is to leave here around 9am and head down to Broadway. What I would like to hear is where to park and things that are a must see. Now remember we will be getting there around 10ish and staying until the concert. So we need recommendations for Lunch and Dinner.......

Thanks so Much For Your Time....... Lee

Whenever I go downtown I usually park in the Hilton parking garage on 4th avenue. YOu have to pay, but it's not much. Last time I went downtown I left my car there, got a cab home, and picked it up around 1PM the next day for $14.

9 hours downtown will be plenty of time to see everything. Maybe too much. Not sure what your interests are outside of music, but I'd try to start at the State Capitol/Bicentennial Mall in the morning. You should be able to drive there and park for free...or cheap. The State Capitol tour is free and is about a half hour. You'll want to check to see when the tours are offered, but it's definitely worth your time. Maybe grab lunch at the Farmer's Market or if you're driving somewhere over in Germantown.

Then I'd head over to the Ryman for a tour. I've never done the Ryman tour (been there plenty of times) but I've always wanted to. You might go over to the Country Music Hall Of Fame, especially if you're a big country music fan. But it's really expensive to get in there and honestly, I didn't think it was worth it.

From there, head down to Broadway and grab a bite to eat at Jack's BBQ or somewhere on 2nd Avenue (I'm partial to Mulligan's). By that time, it should be somewhat close to your concert time. If you have time, walk across the Shelby St. Pedestrian Bridge towards LP Field. Great views of the city.

Other places to consider going that are a short drive or a longer walk at least:

Frist Center for the Visual Arts (They've got 2 great exhibits going on right now)
Union Station (Next door to the Frist)
Centennial Park/Parthenon (you'll have to drive)
Ft. Negley (If you're into Civil War history...you'll have to drive)

Eats:
Rotier's (near Centennial Park...drive there)
Gerst Haus (next to the interstate and near LP Field...drive there)
Germantown Cafe (a little pricey, but great food)

Enjoy your day as a "tourist" in Nashville.

Lee, if it makes a difference, the Tennessean says it was changed to SEPT. 11. Hope your plans work out.

Bummer. You should still play "tourist" one day and just hang out. We take things here for granted sometimes.
