I think it's a holdover from more civilized days. For old school southerners conversation shouldn't stray from genteel, easy to chat about topics - like football, what's happening at church, babies, etc.

I just moved here from Orlando after being in Miami for a long time and in the few months ive been here i seem to see way more people who have a concerned or nosey look on their face when im out and about ..maybe its the way i dress or something....i cant figure it out really..i feel like everyone is looking over at the next car in traffic trying to see what everyone is up to or something....i am just speaking my experience here because i never really felt like that in Florida

p.s. but people are really much nicer up here when you talk to them or when going through a door or something ...they hold it open for you usually here

Face facts though, the locals do not like all the transplants coming to TN

I hate generalizations. They usually come from those who don't know a whole lot yet. But, there's time. And welcome, btw.

Thanks. My brother-in-law is moving down this week with his wife to Spring Hill. Hope he gets accepted down there.

As a fellow transplant, I've gotten friendly with other transplants--they seem to be the most eager to reach out and welcome other transplants.

Can't blame the locals for being wary--too many people coming here can turn this place into--dare, I say it--Florida! Overpriced, too crowded, and overdeveloped. With growth comes problems.

Man, I wish my Southern coworkers felt this way. They assume everyone else at work agrees with them about everything, so they talk/whine about politics all the time. Not so much religion, though.

While some may feel this way, the majority do not, at least in Murfreesboro. I've lived in TN for 15 years and Murfreesboro for 10 of the 15 and found the locals to be very warm and welcoming.

thanks for the welcome buddy....but really i left Florida one day and came up here later that day and i noticed a big difference..just my experience man...if i didnt feel people were looking over at the next car in traffic like that then i wouldnt have said they were..fact is ive seen more people do that here...maybe where i came from it's not seen as much because of all the stories of guns being pulled out in the past in traffic incidents among many road rage fights ive seen and that i was a part of in Orlando/Miami...people down there mostly dont look over or at least you dont get that feeling there...the only ones that usually look over are the ones that want to start a fight or something..you know the thug wannabee Puerto Rican types...but here its just the soccer mom or office workers ive seen staring over at me in my car and im like ..."yeah..can i help you?"....lol...just my experience.

He will. Springhill also has many transplants as some belong to my club, Nashville New Neighbors.
