Does anyone know if this is allowed in TN? I live in the Memphis area but posted it here because I saw some threads about homeschooling..(only lived in TN for a year now) and have a parent who would like me to do this. I've heard rumors it's not allowed. I am a certified teacher, her son has autism, and mine does as well. I thought I'd ask some of you who have lived here longer than I before I make the dreaded call to the state dept. of education.

Does anyone know off hand? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure state law requires parents to home school THEIR OWN children. Otherwise, it's not home schooling. You can get most of what you need at this website: Homeschooling in Tennessee - TDOE

It also has a link in the sidebar to your county home school coordinator. There is an e-mail address for her so you can ask her about this.

Thanks, I actually found that after I posted. I feel silly now for asking! It seems you can be under a church related program, or something in that regard.

Thanks!

I know some folks in Memphis that did the church based program "Gateway" They were pretty happy with it, and from what I heard it's not a real "churchy" program, in that they didn't heavily promote any one certain religious belief. Also several of the kids in Gateway participated in some afterschool activities and clubs at what would be considered their "home school" in whichever district they lived in.

Who says they have to know if you homeschool someone elses child? Why not just keep it between yourself, the child, and the childs parents? In the end, if a child has been taught, I see no problem with it.
