I may be moving to middle Tennessee (most likely Murfreesboro area) and my kids and I love swimming. I found a website that shows swimming holes in east TN, but I couldn't find many in middle TN. I'm looking for clear water, and no roped off lake swimming. All suggestions would be apreciated.

The Harpeth river has lots of nice spots, but how much access is there these days, I can't say. I'm going on 30+ year old memories, I'm sure the huge amount of develpment has changed the picture. Someone hopefully will help out here. Also there may be some good places along the Stones river, closer to the 'boro.

Here's the Wikipedia page on the Harpeth: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpeth_River

I remember a road winding alongside the Harpeth, not too far from Forest Hills. There were a lot of parking spots along there, with plenty of river access. Truly beautiful, nicely wooded. Drank many beers there as a teenager. I can't imagine that this has changed that much except maybe now mansions have sprung up across the road. Google Earth may reveal the answer. Anyway you should also go see the Narrows of the Harpeth, used to be a fine swimming hole, may be controlled access now.

Default Here's the website for the swimming holes...

I found this site online. I have't tried to locate any of these spots, but seems legit. http://www.swimmingholes.org/tn.html
Good luck
