I recently discovered the other side of East Nashville--that is, the other side of Shelby Park. Looking at the crime maps, it seems like a pretty safe area. However, I wanted to post here and just make sure.

In particular, I'm wondering,
-Are there better/worse parts of the area (I'm looking South of Porter and east of Shelby Park)
-What kind of people live there?
-Are there any young people there?
-Does the area seem to be appreciating in value? That is, will my investment be a good one if I buy there?
-Any particular streets to look for? Watch for?

Thanks in advance!

That area was the Nashville suburbs when they were built in the 1950's. Most houses are ranch style brick houses on pretty big lots (at least compared to what new houses are built on today). I have a friend that lives over there and hasn't ever had anything stolen from him (he does live on a dead end street) and sometimes leaves his door unlocked when he leaves (even though I wouldn't suggest that wherever you lived). The area in general is safer probably because you have less section 8/renters and more home owners in those neighborhoods. So you have a lot of older folks that have lived there their much of their lives, some lower income folks that moved there before the East Nashville real estate boom started, and then your share of younger residents (probably either college graduates or some college) who have moved in post year 2000 or so similiar to the rest of East Nashville/Inglewood. Personally, I think the area is one of the best kept secrets in Davidson County and it's still pretty affordable. It's more of a suburban feel but still close to all the amentities that East Nashville has and close to downtown. You would need to get a real estate agent that knows the area too well as I don't actually live in that neighborhood so I'm sure there's areas to avoid as well. Good luck.

I have a friend who lives on Riverside, just a few blocks from the entrance to the park. She loves it, and it's pretty quiet over there.
