This is all preliminary but I have an interview for a job in Brentwood. Brentwood appears to be VERY expensive so... I head to realtor.com and see tons of apparently nice houses in Smyrna, Antioch, and Lavergne. Antioch is only 10 miles away...

Of course nice and cheap are a great combination... that sometimes has a reason.

Decent places?
Reasonably decent schools?
Crime?
Tons look to be foreclosures (1 picture ads)

Inform me please.

Just do a search on this site and you will come up with numerous threads talking about these areas and probably answering most any question you have.

The part of Antioch nearest Brentwood isn't the best area. The other side of Antioch between Priest lake and Anderson Rd is a nice area. There are lots of foreclosures in LaVergne because there is lots of low income housing. Lots of those cookie cutter neighborhoods. Can't really comment on Smyrna.

Smyrna is the most upscale of any of those areas and has the least crime. Antioch and Lavergne have the worst crime in the Nashville area.

Bellevue (west of Brentwood) is worth looking into.

Is Bellevue actually city of Nashville? The listings come up with both Nashville and Bellevue for the zip code.

I already have done the nice neighborhood in the big city thing... Cops too lazy to do anything but write tickets and lousy schools... been there done that.

Smyrna as was said is the best of the locations.

The "west side" of LaVergne (using Murfreesboro Rd., as the line) is "better".

Antioch has some good spots, but most is not.

Bellevue is in Davidson county and since we have a consolidated city-county government here it's also considered Nashville as well.

Pros and cons of that arrangement aside, I've lived in both Antioch and Bellevue and there's really no comparison. Bellevue is leaps and bounds ahead of Antioch and while it is a little more expensive you definitely get what you pay for. It's also a quick (not to mention scenic) drive into Brentwood via Old Hickory Blvd (used to take me about 15 minutes or so).

It really depends on several factors. What is important to you? You can look around Nippers Corner for some affordability near Brentwood. I completely disagree that the part of Antioch closest to Brentwood is the worst. The area of Antioch called Cane Ridge is probably the best part of Antioch. There are nice areas near Priest Lake, but you'll find newer and nicer amenities around Cane Ridge. Most Cane Ridge residents actually shop in Brentwood. What are you looking for and what is your price range? You may be able to find something in Brentwood. I would avoid Bellevue. The commute would not be pleasant. You can also look in Nolensville, but those prices have gone up quite a bit in recent years.
