I'm looking into a job opening in Gallatin. I've done a search in Tennessee forums for the word and usually only see it in passing. What is Gallatin like in terms of politics, schools, scenery, development, general atttidue? I am in Central Texas, by the way.

Well, Gallatin offers a bit of everything. The Southwestern part of the city near Hendersonville is definitely part of Nashville's suburbia. You'll find lots of new construction ranging from probably 150,000 to 1 million + in areas like "Fairvue" on the lake. There's a lot of new retail activity and some nice mixed-use developments going up along Gallatin Road. This area has the best scenery with rolling hills and horse farms...a great area is Long Hollow Pike. The schools are also better in this area.

The rest of the city is older and more established. There's a nice town square that has holds some small town character. There are also some lower income areas on the North and East sides. The city has a large industrial area near the airport.

there is a lot of construction work if that's what you are looking for. Roads, shopping, residential still growing at an alarming rate. "If they build it, the will come" mentality. And if you fish, there's plenty of water around. Good luck with your move and welcome to TN.

There is not a wealth of new home construction currently in the Metro Nashville area.

As far as politics goes, Sumner county voted 85% Republican in the last election. So, it's great here if you're a Republican -- not so great if you're a Democrat. Sumner county is very family-oriented. It's not the best place for singles. I think the scenery is beautiful in this area. Hendersonville schools are excellent. Some Gallatin schools are excellent and some are average.

Smile Gallatin

I live in Gallatin. You would really like living there. People are friendly and there are lots of restaurants and gas stations.

We have a Super WalMart too.

Best of luck on your move.

P.S. There is a new bus transit to Nashville weekdays that started last September, and people really like that.

Hope to see ya soon!

Gallatan is not a bad town at all, I have several friends there many have lived there for their entire lives. About the only negative is the police. Some of them have a attitude and frequently overstep themselves while enforcing the law. And it's with the blessing of their superiors and the judges.
You can be law abiding as all get out and still run afoul of them.
