Hello:

I am a church musician who recently moved to Nashville, but I currently don't have a convenient place to practice. I use the piano in the church I play for, but it is 35 miles away from where I live. Does anyone have suggestions about facilities within the Nashville area that allow free access to a piano or keyboard for about 1-2 hours?

Before I moved, I lived in a small town, and was able to use the practice rooms at the local Community College. Does anyone currently do the same thing at the Universities here in town? If so, where? I live on the east side of the city, but have no problem commuting if that's what it takes.

Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated.

My first thought would be to go to one of the churches near where you live and ask if you can practice using their piano when it's not being used by them. Tell them that you play for another church, but that it's far away. I'd be willing to bet that unless it was just inconvenient for the church for some reason that they would let you use theirs.

And if you're shy about asking, send me a PM listing one or two or the churches nearby and I'll ask them for you if they have a phone. ;-)

Contact a local school. They might could accomodate your needs. Maybe you could volunteer to play for some classes or programs in exchange for practice times. Elementary schools would probably be your best bet.

Go to the nearest nursing home or assisted living facility. The residents would love to hear you practice.
