Hello,

My husband, 3 month old daughter, and I are planning on moving to Nashville very soon. He already has a job lined up (he's a truck driver) and I will be staying home and getting us settled for the first few months, eventually finding a babysitter and working part-time (I am a chef who works in insurance for the moment). We were in Nashville this weekend and are looking at a house for rent in the Inglewood/Madison area north-east of town. Is this a fairly decent area to live? I'm really nervous about making this move, since we will be leaving our family and friends (we don't know anyone there). We would love to live in a family friendly area, where we won't be afraid to let our daughter out to play when she is old enough. We also need recommendations on a good pediatrician who isn't going to write a prescription for medication everytime our daughter is sick (I know sometimes you HAVE to, but I like to do everything possible before going that route!) Any advice is much appreciated!

-Krystal

If you decide to move to Madison, look toward the west side -- near Graycroft and across 65 toward Dickerson. There are always a few houses to rent in the area.

I don't know that any house-hunting advice in Nashville that includes the phrase "toward Dickerson" should be heeded, but Graycroft is a decent area.

Since you have a kid that will be in school sooner or later, my suggestion is to head a couple more miles north into Hendersonville where the schools are 1,000 times better than Metro and the crime rate is very low. I don't have kids so I'm not familiar with the pediatricians around here, but in a town of 50,000 I am sure there will be more than a few great ones to choose from.

Once again, you never miss an opportunity.

Dickerson is fine once past Briley. Perhaps you should see for yourself.

Not that I expect you to.

Yes, but, Dickerson heading toward EN is the worst street in the city hands down. That reputation pays off.

That area isn't anywhere near Madison.

Never said it was. I said Dickerson Pike is the worst street in the City. Especially the part that in EN. A reputation like that pays off.
