Does anybody know of any community gardens in Murfreesboro. We were finally able to find a townhouse, but no yard to garden in. Before I bother with container gardening, I was wondering if there were any community gardens I could rent a plot from?
Thanks!

I never heard of one here. That surely does not mean they don't exist though. Anyone else??

I haven't heard of any either.

Since we're talking about gardening...

The peaches on my tree are weighing down the limbs so much they are beginning to snap. What should I do? I was thinking about going to get some lumber to support the weight. Is that a good idea? I've had four limbs break already losing about 150 or so peaches.

Mike - You may want to call a nursery and ask. Your idea sounds plausible to me, but I'm not a professional.

You'll need to provide support until you can harvest the fruit OR you can thin out the current yield by removing any peaches that are crowding another on the same branch. You get less fruit, but what you harvest should be larger and better tasting.

When was the last time you pruned the tree? When we bought our property from my Mom, it had been YEARS since anyone had pruned the fruit trees and they bore little fruit. We thined them out a couple years ago and now this year we have a bumper crop of apples and pears!

Let me interpret this. Basically, all that is going to happen now is Mary_Moon will be sneaking onto your property at 2 in the morning to steal (I mean borrow) some peaches after she gets her free milk from the neighbor's cow. We are on to you Mary......quite the crafty one!

Nah. With school starting up soon my 2AM excursions are pretty much over for now. Those fresh peaches would make a heck of a peach cobbler, though. Hot from the over served with a scoop of ice cream...YUM!

I don't know anything about pruning a tree. Honestly, I don't even really know what that entails.

The home was built 12 years ago, so I'm guessing the tree was planted about the same time. Not sure if it's true, but I read somewhere that peach trees only last about 12 years. If so, maybe it's on its last legs?

My Mom always told me that peach trees don't live very long, too. You could call the extension office for advice on pruning and other care.
