Some family friends of mine that live in "Parkwood" claim to live in East Nashville. They say that Brick Church Pike is East Nashville. It got me thinking if the residents of these neighborhoods that are North of downtown say they live in East Nashville, who can tell them otherwise? As a kid who lived in Nashville 15+ years ago I definitely didn't know about all these neighborhoods that we have now. It just seems like realtors make up arbitrary neighborhood boundaries and they stick because they're catchy. If the longtime pre gentrification residents think Brick Church Pike is East Nashville does that not make it true?

Parkwood would be really stretching it in my mind. I do admit there to be a gray area of what constitutes East Nashville and North Nashville but, personally, I've always felt that dividing line to be in the vicinity of the Trinity Ln I65 exit and east with everything north and west of the interstate as North Nashville. Madison kind of starts to creep in around Skyline Medical Center too. I'd put the northern boundary of East Nashville at Briley Pkwy.

I do understand realtors' rationale behind rebranding certain areas of town to be more appealing. And, though unfair, North Nashville, has a reputation with buyers. So too East Nashville did 20+ years ago and we see how that's changed. So I suspect there'll be a time in the not too distant future where there won't be such a need to rebrand North Nashville.

As someone who's born and raised in Nashville and grew up in the Brick Church Pk. area, this has been an area of debate since I was young lol. My personal opinion, anything east of Dickerson Rd is considered East Nashville. Brick Church is directly north and runs south till you hit the Katy Hill area close to downtown, so not sure how that would be considered East.

Metro defines East Nashville as being bounded by I65, Briley Pkwy, and the River

http://maps.nashville.gov/webimages/...%20(36x36).pdf

Parkwood - Union Hill is it's own area.

My rationale is that if the African Americans community thinks brick church is east Nashville and they are the long time residents of brick church, how is it not east Nashville lol. These are the same residents that lived here before Cleveland and mcferrin park were called that. It was just “out east”. The people who make the maps who serve on the city council and the real estate agents are never from these neighborhoods. Meanwhile, everyone in Parkwood says they live in East Nashville lol. I bet you if Parkwood was a hip area like 5 points it would be thought of as East Nashville because it’s more consistent with the image of “East Nashville”.

The community planning areas were established based on input from various community meetings around Nashville.

You are absolutely correct...to the African American community of Nashville areas like Parkwood, Trinity Hills, Hanyes Manor, and other areas as far west as Whites Creek Pk and as far north as Briley at Dickerson and or Brick Church. have been referred to as “Out East”, though geographically are north of downtown Nashville. It’s considers “Out East” because it’s is in the 37207 zip code which begins in East Nashville on the east bank of the Cumberland River. In the African American community North Nashville is on the other side of the river to include the metro center area all the way to Jefferson st./TSU Fisk areas Just west of TSU is West Nashville or “Out West”. North of the river on Clarksville Pk and west of Trinity Lane is Bordeaux. South Nashville, or “Out South” is divided into two parts, when more familiar with one you say “the other part of south” when referring to the other and everyone knows where you are talking about.
The areas are clearly defined by the African American communities and have been for generations and wasn’t until Nashville became the “it” city that relators and other began to change the names of areas to be more appealing the whites, disassociating the rebranded communities with the former ones...

Where is it in respect to Trinity Hills? Parkwood is a well defined neighborhood I’m not sure exactly where trinity hills and Haynes manor are. I know there’s an apartment complex called Haynes garden off whites creek pike.
