I moved into this house in Middle TN and I've had a few of these insects in my living room. Note that the pics are enlarged. Prior to enlarging, they almost look like furry worms (at least without my glasses on)! The pics show them after they were killed. I didn't see any in the house until about 3 days ago after steam mopping the place. May not have had anything to do with that, but just thought I'd mention it.

Anyone know what they are, why I'm getting them and how to get rid of them?

Looks like a type of centipede. Your exterminator can take care of them.

Agree that looks like a silverfish. They aren’t disease carriers, it’s the bugs that eat them that may carry disease.

Silverfish chew on things like moths do.

A silverfish is a small, wingless insect in the order Zygentoma. Its common name derives from the animal's silvery light grey colour, combined with the fish-like appearance of its movements. However, the scientific name indicates the silverfish's diet consists of carbohydrates such as sugar or starches. Wikipedia

If you have a lot of them it could be a sign you have a water leak somewhere that needs to be fixed. They could be dining on wet wallboard. They may fall into a sink or bathroom & can't climb out.

With the holidays be wary of boxes, packages and shipments. This is where I have mostly seen them. If you get an item quickly discard of the cardboard package outside of your home.
