If you have kids, Nolensville and the Stewarts Creek area have the newest schools.

My husband will be working in La Vergne but is willing to have a 45-50 minute commute (as that's what we're used to in Houston.) Firstly, we are homebodies so our search has been mainly about what actual homes are available to rent in our price range ($2k to $2.5k). We like updated homes with nice, finishing touches (no box homes that are identical to their neighbor). Our money goes further in Murfreesboro. But, is it all pavement and strip malls? We're moving to Tennessee to get away from all of that. I'm okay with being near shopping centers and such, but I'd prefer my home to be in a more peaceful area. Are there any secluded areas or or scenery mixed into the town? Any views of hills? Does the town have any charm- unique places, walkable areas, historic homes?

I'm just trying to make sure we aren't moving from one concrete jungle to another. What areas of the town should I drive thru when we visit that will give me a good overall glimpse? Any opinions on the Haynes Haven neighborhood specifically? Thanks!
Welcome to Tennessee. You can't go wrong with Murfreesboro or Smyrna. North Murfreesboro has the nicest homes and neighborhoods. This area is called the Siegel area. The area has access to I 840 via Thompson Lane, Cherry Lane/Sulfur Springs Road, and Jefferson Pike in Walter Hill. There are great parks and a new green way trailhead at Walter Hill Dam. I like North Murfreesboro because it is safe, away from riff raff, quiet, and they are building more shopping centers. Sprouts is located here along Memorial Boulevard and a future new Kroger, Aldi, and Lowes. Most of the neighborhoods in this area have mature foliage (canopy) and wide streets.

Search: Siegel, Breckenridge, Mirabella, The Reserve

Smyrna has nice neighborhoods in the areas between exits 70 and 66 on I 24. The major roads are Sam Ridley Parkway and Almaville Road.

Search: The Enclave, The Preserve at Stewarts Creek, South Haven, Rocky Fork Road, Summer Ridge

Neighborhoods sprout along '840 growth corridor'

Even if you home school at this point in time, if you decided later to let the kids be around other kids, being near nice newer schools seems like it would be important.

Thank you! I do have my eye on a few homes in that northern area of Murfreesboro. Are you familiar with the neighborhoods off of Church St? On the south west side of 24? I think it might be called Indian Hills?

Yes, it is ok. The road noise is loud though because a lot of transfer trucks use that route to go to the walmart distribution center in Shelbyville as well as going through Huntsville. It also backs up to a loud General Mills Plant and railroad tracks. It is generally safe and also growing with new shopping centers. That area has too much traffic for me though. The nicer neighborhoods are located on Veterans Parkway and Highway 99 if you would like to be on the south west side of town.
