We are searching for our new home here around Hendersonville.
We have seen a few homes built in 80s and 90s,
What are your thoughts on the difference in both builders and workmanship from the newer homes being built?

Thanks all

My house was built in the 90's . . but I think it really depends on how it was built and any upgrades, additions, and who did those. There's much to be said for old houses that have gotten over their growing pains. But the guy who installed my relatively new HVAC system was telling me about a new McMansion he was working on that was a total wreck, just not built properly. And even if you pick a builder you like, it comes down to the mood and expertise of the guy that showed up to work that day! I'm not convinced newer homes are "better".

I would NOT shy away from an older home (unless you're talking 1950's and have to look for asbestos, old pipes). Find a house you like and hire a really good home inspector to check it all out.

I think the real question isn't how old is the house but how old is the HVAC and roof. My house is 11 years old and a ticking bomb for a new HVAC and a roof probably in 5 years.
