Oh, and FYI there are a number of houses of the same ilk (early century) in M'boro, just North of Downtown. My wife and I rented there for a couple of years before we moved up here. Loved the neighborhood, but it was less of a "community" feel as we get here in EN, believe it or not.

I keep saying EN is like a small town in the big city...the "community" feel around here is unbelievable.

Put it this way...when we moved up here, I posted on that East Nashville listserv that my wife and I were looking to rent for a month until we could close on our house in the neighborhood...we probably had 5-7 people email us, from notifying us of a house for rent to inviting us to stay in their home WITH them for a month...all without even knowing us. The people around here are amazing.

I better stop now...people will start to think I'm a shill for East Nashville.

Have you visited yet?

If not, I wouldn't be surprised if you changed your mind and didn't accept the position. I'm not trying to be negative, it's just that I met quite a few people last year that came down and interviewed for faculty positions. The people that accepted were usually 3rd on list of accepted applicants.

I did visit M'boro, and drove around with a realtor, etc. You see, I live in College Station, TX now which would be described much like Murfreesboro, and I can hack it here just fine. It's comfortable, but just not that exciting or vibrant. We really want that experience. We don't plan on buying right away, so if we do N'ville and I can't stand the commute, we're not stuck. If we do M'boro and we're bored to tears, we're not stuck. I really do think that M'boro would be fine, but Nashville (right now anyways) sounds better. Again, some other things need to fall into place (possibly some great friends moving to N'ville) but Nashville, despite it's detractors, seems to have lots to offer.

On another note, should I be looking for any other areas? Such as zip codes: 37212, 37203, 37204? Are areas such as Berry Hill, 12 South Hillsboro village similar in vibe to EN? These areas are on the M'boro side of town, but how is 440 traffic in rush hour?

Pretty bad, usually. Depending on how far from 24 you are, it could be as much as 30 more mins.

Absolutely awful at the I-65 exit. The others are very bad as well, but that exit is almost unbearable.
