She also wants to be near a decent mall/shopping district.

Mt. Juliet and Donelson both look like they will would work for us, and if they are on the train line, so much the better (at least for Mt. Juliet). One thing I like out here in Denver is that the public transit is pretty good; having lived in areas north of Nashville (Louisville & Cincinnati) I know those cities had a bit of a stigma towards taking the bus. Is that the case here?

We're not eligible for 55+ communities (yet); she has MS. We do have dogs, so lot size is a bit of a bugaboo. I guess anywhere from an 8-10K square foot lot up to a half acre would be fine. We had 2/3 of an acre in Cincinnati; the dogs loved it but it was a pain to mow that much area (even with a John Deere riding mower).

Again, great info here! We appreciate it!
It does sound like Mt. Juliet could be a great fit. The newer Providence Marketplace has pretty much anything you could need shopping-wise and many of the newer homes are on smaller, manageable lots. Plus you have the train!

Dear All - trying to use Realtracs and when I put in Donelson or Bellevue into sub division based on the discussion here - I am not getting any properties back. What am I doing wrong?

Hmmm... Donelson and Bellevue are areas within Nashville, way larger than any subdivision, but they also don't show up as cities either. I'd try searching by zip code, which is primarily 37214 for Donelson and 37221 for Bellevue.

Yes, the zip code does work for Bellevue. My real estate agent friend says inventory is quite low (in general) at the moment. So give it another 2 weeks or so?

Spring Hill would offer a great quality of life, but the commute to Nashville, if during normal working times, would be a deterrent.

Explore Fairview. Brand new single level homes are being built under 200k and certain to appreciate quickly.

Another area to consider would be Old Hickory Village, which has a collection of older craftsman style homes. We have several friends that live there and love it.
