We are relocating to Nashville in May. We have a daughter starting kindergarten, and are looking for an apartment/sublet/townhome to rent for somewhere between 3 months-1 year. We hope the elementary school to be okay, if not great.

Looking at Donelson, Hermitage, and basically anywhere else (we are open to where we are). Amenities would be a great plus (playground, etc.). Looking online I found a few apartment complexes like Tulip Grove and the Colannade, both of which looked great, but then read bad reviews. Any suggestions of specific communities, buildings, etc? I appreciate it.

Well, that's exactly what I meant to write! Ha! We are looking for a 2-3 bedroom for preferably no more than $1200. At the MOST! :-)

I'm sorry I don't know much about the areas you mentioned. I do hear good things about many Metro elementary schools, so you may find exactly what you're looking for there.
I'm familiar with Shayne Elementary personally and Granbery / Crieve Hall Elementaries by word-of-mouth from many parents. I'd consider all of them good. If you look on realtracs.com, you can put in those schools by name and see some of what's available. Good luck!
