I was having a conversation with a friend this weekend about the friendliness of Nashville and its surrounding areas and would love some additional perspectives. Do you feel like this area is friendly towards transplants/people new to town?

Haha, I see what you all are talking about! Totally missed the earlier thread when I posted my initial question.

In my experience, people in the area are "nice," but not too welcoming to transplants, if that makes sense. I know others have had better experiences than myself, and others have had worse, so I'm just curious to hear what others on this board have dealth with firsthand.

Super welcoming within my group of friends that I met via my sporting endeavors. Average for the rest and not so much for work people (who we hired here).

Sounds like you need a more rigorous interview process....i kid. That seems odd though.

For those of you who are church goers, what have your experiences been like?

Not a church goer, moved from CT and I found everyone to be incredibly welcoming, warm, and supportive. Such a change from CT. Of course, you get what you give . . . . but MY experience has been just great, couldn't ask for more.

PS. I also think that neighborhoods of today are not like they used to be. People keep to themselves more and often socialize with people other than the folks next door.

I have found people to be friendly, but I would not say friendlier than up north, just different.
I have found people in the south are more likely to say hello, how are you, and have a great day.
Up north people just nod, barely make eye contact, don't stand too close, and may say have a good-one, if they feel like it.
But that is window dressing of what it means to be friendly in my opinion. There is a difference between nice and chatty.
I have found that northerners are just as likely as southerners to help out a friend in need, or a neighbor, or a stranger. Northerners are more reserved, but are just as kind hearted. Southerners feel almost compelled to talk to people if they are in the same room. Northerners are content just to occupy the same space, speaking only if necessary. Some people mistake the northerners reticense for aloofness, but really they just don't feel compelled to make small talk. I think at times northerners are more sincere. Since i am from the north, i find northerners easier to read. I generally feel northerners say what they mean, whereas southerners often are indirect in what they say, and don't always say what is on their mind.

I think Tennesseans are wonderful. In the few times I have been there, each time I met couples/people and we exchanged numbers and we get together when we settle in down there. I eve. Recieved hugs from people I barely know.
Never happen in New York
