That storm arrived about 9pm. Nashville Weather Service bureau did issue alerts. Many of the storm sirens were blazing. The dark sky/ferocity of the storm would make it difficult to spot any tornado if one popped out of the sky.

It ended up as a very strong thunderstorm. In a sense, it is good news for Nordstroms to take heed of the warnings and not just send customers out into the storm. From the Ryman (Opry) to the Preds game it seemed OK. Better to be safe than sorry.

The Weather Channel says Monday's high will be 15 and low will be 4. What. In. The. World? I can honestly say I don't remember the last time I experienced temperatures that cold.

Those type of temps don't last very long here, making them more tolerable. In the Midwest, they go on for weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks.

It's been a little while, but when the old water main on Broadway busted, highs were in the 20s for about a week or two, with lows in the single digits.

6 months before I was born, we had a high of -2 and a low of -16 (1985).

I was born in the winter of 85 so thats....ironic. But I'm sure I've experienced 15 degrees several times early in the morning or something but my recollection of single-digit and near-zero temps is little to none.

To illustrate how unpredictable our winter weather can be, I remember the winter of 83 it was down to -17 on Christmas day. The next year it was in the 60s on Christmas day.

Anyway, I feared tornadoes the entire time I lived here leading to when one actually hit my street and neighbors. Once that happened, believe it or not, my fear was lessened. I realize now that if it is going to happen it is, and there is nothing I can do to prevent it, so the whole let go and let God thing comes into play. Just letting it go has allowed me to stop feeling tense all day every day when there are rain clouds. Once in 21 years is not bad in my opinion

I grew up in Wichita, Kansas (lived through the Andover tornado that the movie Twister was loosely based on), so the "realization" you came to makes a lot of sense. Tornadoes can be terrifying, but there's only so much you can do to protect yourself from them.

That said, it seems like whenever there is bad weather in the Nashville area, Hendersonville/Sumner County always gets hit hard by it.

I'm already freaking out about the possibilty of roads being in horrendous shape on Sunday night/Monday morning and beyond. The high on Sunday is supposed to be in the low 40s with rain, and the low dropping all the way down to 9, presumably freezing everything on the ground. Then Monday the highs in the low teens and lows near zero? When will the ice melt? Wednesday, when it gets above freezing again?

There's only so much salt trucks can do but they better be out in full force Sunday.

It is supposed to be sunny all day Monday....I can't remember if that will make a difference to the snow on the ground when the high is 15 though..ha!
