Hi, I am visiting your beautiful city soon and am staying at the Gaylord Opryland overnight. The parking there is pricey, and I'd like to have some suggestions for good food within walking distance after my family checks in. Any suggestions?

You don't have the best choices in the world for restaurants within walking distance of Opryland. Maybe Romano's Macaroni Grill or Chuy's (both chains) in Opry Mils. People go to the Rain Forest Cafe and the Aquarium Restaurant there, but more for the adventure than any expectation of fine dining. You could try one of the restaurant within Opryland; I haven't been there since the remodeling so I can't give you any specifics.

There is a Cracker Barrel restaurant not too far away.

If your looking for something other than chains or the places in the hotel, you might want to check out John A's which is nearby. You would be able to walk to it (although the area is very car centric and not real walkable it isn't far from the hotel) and you would get at least a little local flavor there. Sometimes they have live music and the food is pretty good (standard American fare). While the hotel is really neat, I really hoped, after the flood, that Opryland Hotel would create a more walkable type campus (outside, the inside is very walkable obviously) - including the mall, but it was not to be.

You can walk to Opry Mills (its a mall and has eateries) which is walking distance to the hotel (the pathway will take you right beside what use to be the Grizzly River Rampage from Opryland). However for experience sake and since your staying at the hotel, I would try one of the places that they have in the hotel.
